의왕시의회 한채훈 의원이 기후위기 대응과 탄소중립 실현을 위한 ‘의왕시 환경교육 활성화 및 지원 조례안’을 대표 발의했다. 조례안은 의왕시의원 7명 전원이 공동 발의했으며, 오는 9월 9일 열리는 제314회 임시회 본회의 통과가 유력하다.

조례안은 △5년 단위 환경교육계획 수립, △환경교육위원회 운영, △학교·사회환경교육 지원, △기업 및 공공기관 임직원 환경교육 지원, △환경교육주간 운영, △환경교육센터 지정 및 운영 등이 담겼다. ‘환경교육의 활성화 및 지원에 관한 법률’에 근거해 시민이 환경보전의 필요성을 인식하고 생활 속 실천으로 이어지도록 체계를 갖추는 것 등을 핵심으로 하고 있다.

한채훈 의원은 “환경교육은 기후위기 시대에 더 이상 선택이 아닌 필수 과제”라며, “관(官) 주도가 아닌 시민과 전문가가 함께하는 거버넌스 형태로 추진해 의왕시를 환경교육도시이자 탄소중립 선도 도시로 만들겠다”고 강조했다.

한채훈 의원은 앞서 ‘의왕시 순환경제사회 전환 촉진 조례’, ‘의왕시 기후위기 대응을 위한 탄소중립·녹색성장 기본 조례’를 대표 발의해 의왕시에서 기후 위기 관련 정책 기반을 마련한 바 있으며, 시민참여형 토론회와 위원회 활동, 소각장 건립 촉구 등 환경 현안 전반에서 활발한 의정활동을 펼쳐왔다.

Uiwang City Council Member Han Chae-hoon has introduced the "Uiwang City Environmental Education Activation and Support Ordinance" to address the climate crisis and achieve carbon neutrality.
