의왕시 중앙도서관이 지난 4월 12일 제3회 도서관의 날을 맞아 IB 교육 전문가인 이혜정 소장(교육과혁신연구소)을 초청 강연을 개최했다.

IB(International Baccalaureate·국제 바칼로레아)는 스위스 비영리 교육재단인 IBO(국제 바칼로레아 기구)가 주관하는 교육과정으로 토론과 발표 중심의 수업을 통해 학생의 창의력과 문제 해결 능력을 높이는 등 개인 역량을 키우는 국제 인증학교 교육.

이번 특강은 내손중고등학교가 지난 3월 전국 최초로 IB 교육 과정을 도입, 개교함에 따라 IB 프로그램에 대한 학부모 및 학생들의 이해도를 높이고 지역사회의 공감대를 형성하여 IB 교육의 저변을 확대하기 위해 마련됐다.

이혜정 소장은 ‘IB를 말한다’의 저자로 이날 강의에서 IB 교육이 무엇인지, 공교육에서 IB 교육을 어떻게 실천할 수 있는지 등의 IB 교육 전반에 걸친 내용을 설명하며 해당 교육과정에 대한 참석자들의 이해를 도왔다.

김성제 의왕시장은 “내손중고통합학교가 교육과정의 다양화와 학생 선택의 자율성을 확대하기 위한 일환으로 IB 특성화 프로그램을 도입한 만큼 학생들의 비판적 사고력과 창의력을 키울 수 있는 교육과정으로 발전해 나가길 기대한다”고 말했다.

Internationally certified school education that enhances creativity and problem-solving skills through discussion and presentation-centered classes

Uiwang City Central Library held an invitation lecture by Director Lee Hye-jeong (Education and Innovation Research Institute), an IB education expert, on the 3rd Library Day on April 12.

IB (International Baccalaureate) is an educational curriculum hosted by the Swiss non-profit educational foundation IBO (International Baccalaureate Organization) that fosters individual capabilities such as enhancing students' creativity and problem-solving skills through discussion and presentation-centered classes.

This special lecture was prepared to increase the understanding of the IB program by parents and students and to form a consensus in the local community as Naeson Middle and High School became the first school in Korea to introduce the IB curriculum in March and opened. It was designed to expand the base of IB education.

Director Lee Hye-jeong, author of “Talking about IB,” explained the overall content of IB education, including what IB education is and how IB education can be implemented in public education, helping attendees understand the curriculum.

Mayor Kim Seong-je of Uiwang said, “As Naeson Middle and High School has introduced an IB specialized program as part of efforts to diversify the curriculum and expand student autonomy in choice, I hope that it will develop into a curriculum that can foster students’ critical thinking and creativity.”
